Eurasian Resources Group (“ERG” or “the Group”), a leading diversified natural resources producer, has launched an initiative to support student entrepreneurship. The Group unveiled the project in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, at a round-table discussion on nurturing student talent.

One of the principal challenges facing Kazakhstan is the need to provide employment for a growing generation of talented workers and ERG is doing a lot to nurture young entrepreneurs so that young people can realise their full potential. As part of this effort, the Group is supporting the transformation of regional education centres into business universities and has launched a project to foster student entrepreneurship.

The meeting in Aktobe was attended by representatives from the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan including the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry for Investments and Development, the Akimat (local administration) of the Aktobe Region and the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, as well as NGOs, heads of regional universities, and local business leaders.

The Group will engage leading coaches to conduct training sessions and assign mentors to ambitious and self-motivated students to help them monetise their ideas. A pilot project took place at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University with assistance from Tel Aviv University and the Kazakhstani Friends Association of Tel Aviv University; the results proved that the initiative is popular and viable. The Group has now named the partner universities shortlisted for participation in the project.

Dr Alexander Machkevitch, Chairman of ERG Board of Directors, said: ‘As a responsible corporate citizen, ERG believes that youth entrepreneurship will play a key role in developing an innovative knowledge economy. It is vital that the governments, businesses and civil society organisations work together to create new sources of employment and take students through the entrepreneurial process.’
