28.11.2017

Eurasian Resources Group (“ERG” or “the Group”), a leading diversified natural resources producer, has been declared Kazakhstan’s most innovative company at the official award ceremony of the Ranking of Kazakhstan’s Innovative Companies competition, held at the 12th Innovation Congress in Almaty. The new competition is the brain child of Kazakhstan’s National Agency for Technological Development and the MOST Business Incubator and was supported by Chevron.

According to the organisers, the Ranking of Kazakhstan’s Innovative Companies competition is designed to identify fast-growing Kazakhstani companies which are leading the way in innovation and to draw attention to the digital transformation of businesses in Kazakhstan.

The project’s Expert Panel is made up of professionals with industry knowledge, business experience and a proven track record of successful business development. Companies were assessed by representatives of UNICEF, the World Bank, the Ministry for Investments and Development of Kazakhstan, JSC Zerde National Infocommunication Holding and the MOST Business Incubator.

Nominees were ranked according to six approved criteria on the basis of case studies and data they presented to the Panel detailing projects that they had implemented.

ERG achieved the highest score after presenting several innovative projects, including: the production of activated carbon from special coke fines; the renovation of furnace No. 64 at the Aksu Ferroalloy Plant; the production of extrusion briquettes (BREX) from ferroalloy fines; the creation of a Smart Mine; and the environmentally friendly production of special coke in CFB gasifiers combined with power generation. The latter project is unique to Kazakhstan and is leading the way in industrial waste recycling.

The Ranking of Kazakhstan’s Innovative Companies competition is expected to become an annual event at the Innovation Congress.
